Reflection 1 Leonardo Preciado

During this past week we were separated into three different groups and tasked with a group presentation. When I first heard about this, I was worried about how we would divide tasks, manage our time, and work together effectively. However, as the project unfolded, my concerns were alleviated by witnessing the great presentations delivered by the three groups including my own.  The three groups delivered insightful presentations on various types of communication, showcasing their knowledge in different areas they researched. Group 1 talked about intercultural communication, emphasizing the importance of understanding and navigating cultural differences for effective interactions. In contrast, Group 2 explored the dynamics of communications within teams, highlighting the significance of clear communication channels and teamwork strategies for achieving common objectives. On the other hand, Group 3’s collaborative presentation focused on leadership qualities and problem-solving skills crucial for team success, offering practical insights into effective leadership practices and innovative approaches to tackling challenges collaboratively. Each group’s unique perspective contributed valuable insights to their respective topics, enriching the audience’s understanding of communication dynamics in diverse contexts. The team collaboration was fantastic, with everyone communicating smoothly and working together. I think this played a big part in our success, and it also seemed to have a positive influence on the other groups’ performances as well.

Group 1’s presentation on intercultural communication shed light on the importance of understanding and effectively communicating . They highlighted how culture influences our perceptions, values, beliefs, and behaviors, which can lead to misunderstandings or conflicts if not properly addressed. This group delved deeply into the chapter, providing thorough explanations of sensitive topics and successfully maintaining a balanced perspective, essential for handling such delicate subjects. While their presentation mainly featured text on slides and not much interaction, the group compensated by elaborating on the content and introducing additional context and fresh insights. This group talked a lot about this chapter and explained some tricky topics really well. They did a good job at staying fair and showing different sides of the story, which made it easier for us to grasp these tough subjects.
Overall presentation provided great information and was well written.

Moving onto Group 2’s presentation about communicating in groups; this was my group and we  explored the dynamics that occur within group settings.  I was very surprised by how well we worked together.  We had someone king of guiding us through and and i feel like through effective listening we able to understand what she was saying and work together on it. We we’re able develop into concepts like leadership styles, decision-making processes within teams or organizations, conflict resolution techniques among team members while emphasizing effective collaboration skills. We also touched upon factors influencing group cohesion such as trust-building exercises or shared goals setting activities that foster teamwork spirit among members. Additionally , we also discussed common barriers to effective group communication including poor listening skills , lack of clarity in roles & responsibilities , differences in opinions etc. A major obstacle we faced was aligning our schedules, necessitating effective communication and adaptability. Nevertheless, we overcame this challenge by staying connected through group chats to discuss issues and allocate tasks efficiently. Overall i believe my group did an excellent job with the presentation and was able to overcome general challenges presented and work through it as a group.

Group 3 talked about leadership and problem-solving in their presentation. The pictures and charts they used looked great and helped explain their topics really well. The visual aids were nicely done and worked perfectly with what they were talking about. They also did really a good job explaining what makes a good leader and how to solve problems as a team. You could also tell they researched the topic thoroughly were able to explain leadership traits like communication skills and decision-making. To improve their presentation, Group 3 could have made it more engaging by incorporating fun activities or additional visuals. Including more real-life examples would have made complex concepts easier to grasp for the audience. Overall, Group 3’s teamwork was great.

In conclusion, it is evident that all three presentations have done an excellent job in providing valuable insights into their respective topics. The presentations delivered by Group 1, Group 2, and Group 3 provided a comprehensive exploration of many communication aspects. Despite each group focusing on different aspects such as intercultural communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, they collectively highlighted essential principles for fostering positive relationships among individuals from diverse backgrounds and within team settings, all presentations were clear and well presented in my eyes. One could really tell how much work and time was put on these presentations. The thorough research conducted by the groups showed their critical thinking abilities, while the practical recommendations offered serve as informative resources for anyone looking to enhance their communication skills effectively. Overall, these well-prepared and engaging presentations not only educated but also inspired all of us to reflect on ways to improve interpersonal connections and collaborative efforts in various contexts. I am definitely surprised by how well the presentations flowed. In terms of my group i was definitely able to notice a lot of improvement from when we started all the way to the end in finishing the presentation. We started off a little bumpy but little by little we’re able organizes ourselves and   equally divide our tasks to make this presentation as inclusive, as understanding and as well written as possible. I typically prefer working independently rather than in groups because I worry about unequal contributions and one person carrying more weight. However, my recent experience with my group has completely changed my perspective. Together, we defied my expectations and collaborated effectively to deliver outstanding results. I have gained valuable insight from these presentations and I am truly grateful for the opportunity to be part of them. The new things I learned from these presentations will definitely be important for me in the future. They've expanded my knowledge so much more and set me up to keep learning and have more experience on the topics  down the road.
