Reflection

For Group one, I really liked how they explained and gave
examples of the different types of roles people would play while participating
in a group. How when working in groups that we should also be supporting each
other. How everybody should behave when working with each other. And how when
they went into speaking about effective meetings, that by the end of the
meeting, the group should have met their goal, or get their point across. There
are different types of roles when working in groups. A logistic coordinator is somebody
who is in charge of everything . An Expeditor is someone that make sure that
the group is on task, so they make sure everything is going to plan, and make
sure that the group doesn’t stray away from the objective goal. Gate keepers take
note of the people of the group an give everyone in the group a chance to speak
on what is on their mind, or an idea that they would like to share. The recorders
of the group take notes of the presentation and give the members feedback to see
what they could have done better. I agree with these because when working
together there should be a sense what kind of goal the group wants to achieve
and then achieve the goal. And giving your group members these roles, I think
make it more effective and efficient on the groups progress and overall better
the groups final goal. Because I think if people have a role to play, while
also working together .I think that assigning these roles, group members are going to find it fun in a way because it
can be fun because there is always something that the group could improve on.
And it is not in a way that is meant to hurt one another but instead you are
building up each other’s confidence and better the group as a whole. Many
times, leadership is perceived as a position that an individual performs. But
current theory maintains that numerous group members carry out leadership
responsibilities. According to this perspective, leadership is a collection of
tasks that can be carried out at different times by one, many, or all group
members. Within a group, there are three types of leadership roles: procedural,
maintenance, and task. Task roles assist the organization in gathering,
analyzing, and applying knowledge. Cohesion, dedication, and good working
relationships are developed and maintained by the group with the support of
maintenance roles. Sets of communication behaviors known as procedural roles
help with logistics, maintain group focus, and document choices and successes
made by the group.
For my group which is group two, there was nothing that I
didn’t like about our presentation. I like how we got into the different type
of groups dynamics weather it being work related, within a family, or even
support groups. And how we explained the different factors that we have to keep
in mind while trying to build a good group relationship. It’s not also about
trying to get the job done, because there are different factor we have to keep
in consideration while working in a group. We have to create a safe working
environment and encourage ourselves when working with one another because it is
important to make the other person feel that they are seen. And that safe
feeling will make the individual want to participate. I see that it is very
important to work together because two heads are better than one. I also liked
how we went over that when going over brainstorming, that it is okay for
everybody not to agree on an idea, as long as the whole group comes to some
kind of understanding than it is okay. I also really liked how some of us took
turns reading our slides, like my teammate went first and read her 2 slides
then I went to read my two slides and then it went back to her. Because right
there we showed an example of teamwork. In addition to developing
well-defined, morally sound objectives, cohesive, interdependent, and working
to create and uphold group norms, healthy organizations also strive for
synergy. After coming together, groups typically go through five
stages of development: forming, which involves making new members feel
important and accepted so they can identify with the group; storming, which
involves defining goals and figuring out each member's place in the group power
structure; norming, which involves establishing rules for behavior; performing,
which involves overcoming challenges and achieving goals; and adjourning, which
involves giving meaning to what has been done and deciding how to end or
maintain developed interpersonal relationships. Groups don't always have to
disband; they might change and carry on with a new objective.
For group three, I really liked how they really got into
everything. Culture, race, sexual orientation, age. That even though there are
obvious differences within the generations, it is important to still find an
understanding and have patience went interacting and help one another. Because
it’s also important to note that different generations have different
understandings, beliefs, and innerworkings. That when working in groups all of
the things mentioned should not make the work dynamic any differently. Everyone
should have equal importance. And when they mentioned masculinity and
femininity, they did a good job at explaining everything. but I don’t like how
in different cultures it is still normalized to put stereotypes on how men and
woman have to act a certain way. It is important to realize that everyone was
raised differently and we all come from different backgrounds. And I think that
is beautiful because we all have different stories to share. So it would be
wonderful if everyone in the world came to that understanding that we are all so
different from one another, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. We all
share the same place we call Earth, so we spend our time disputing with one
another. I now that the world now is filled with horrible things, there is a
war taking place right now, and that is no way to live. Instead of choosing to
hate one another, we need to learn that it is okay to live with our
differences.
